History

Beaumont Parkyns erected most of the Hall during the reign of Queen Anne. The oldest part is believed to be the present pantry with walls that are 3 feet thick, which were probably there when Sir Thomas Parkyns bought the Hall in 1698.

In 1825 the Pagets, a Loughborough family of merchant hosiers and bankers, bought the Hall. Sir Ernest Paget, the Chairman of the Midland Central Railway from 1891-1911, further enlarged it in the 1870’s. His father, Mr George Byng Paget had also been the director of the M.C.R. in 1843. As such, a private platform was installed in the grounds of the Hall so that passing trains could be stopped for the convenience of these gentlemen and the drivers were expected to reduce speed as they passed their residence!

To this day, the Hall remains in the ownership of descendants of the Paget family. The present owner is The Lady Anne Elton who grew up in the Hall and resided here until January 2000. The new Millennium brought with it changes to the Hall. No longer a private residence, the Hall has been refurbished to provide cosy rooms in a homely country house environment. We hope to keep the family atmosphere alive and be true to the history of the Hall, whilst providing you with five star service.
